General Sunday Volunteering

The dates for our Sunday public planting days are listed on the Home page of this website.

It is with regret that we advise Motuihe wharf has been fully closed by the Department of Conservation with immediate effect.  Regrettably there will be no Sunday and midweek volunteer trips until further notice.  We apologise for any inconvenience caused.  We will update this notice as more information becomes available.

Important Note:

  • Please note there will be no stop at Devonport  
  • Bookings are required via this Motuihe Ferry booking site only
  • Cash, cheques are not accepted
  • Email [email protected] to register for a volunteer trip.
  • Ferry bookings must be made in advance by following the Motuihe Ferry Booking Site link
  • Limited seats available.  First in first serve basis
  • Full refunds will be made if the ferry is cancelled because of weather
  • Fares:  $30 per adult, $20 Gold Card holders and Students
  • Z Pier Red Boats location
  • Parking

    Westhaven Parking

    $20 Pay & Display – All day parking at Z Pier

    Free at N pier – provided you park inside white lines and observe time limit.  Approximate 20 minute walk to Z Pier.

    Free parking in surrounding streets on Sundays

    Buses:  Bus stops on Fanshawe Street (opposite Air NZ building) for North Shore routes and just past Air NZ building for Britomart stop

  • Bring your lunch a drink, sturdy shoes, garden gloves if you have them and sun or rain protection
  • A BBQ sausage will be provided and a hot drink of Tea, Coffee or Milo.
  • The work is tree planting in the wetter months and over the summer it is nursery work, potting up plants and weeding
  • Please listen to 0800668844 after 7 am on Sunday morning to check whether the trip is going ahead or not due to weather
  • Biosecurity is very important on Motuihe. Please make sure your shoes are clean and that your bag is closed and does not have any ants or other insects in it.
