Upcoming Trips

Motuihe Island / Te Motu-a-Ihenga

Motuihe Project enters a new phase

The island is now largely covered in regenerating native bush which is providing valuable ecosystems for our precious wildlife.  But there is still much to do!

If you would like to volunteer and contribute to the restoration project, we have opportunities where you can assist us:

* To work in teams which in-fill already planted areas with canopy trees grown in our nursery.
To work in the nursery, propagating the canopy species and a range of rare and threatened plants, including kakabeak
To control invasive weeds
To help maintain our tracks
*   To support and take part in our biodiversity monitoring programmes
To help in our kiosk over the summer to inform the public about the project and sell ice creams

For any of these activities, full training will be given. Children (under 16) are welcome but must be supervised by a parent/adult.

If you'd like to become involved, get in touch at info@motuihe.org.nz

Mid-week Corporate Trips

For returning and new corporate groups who are looking to volunteer for a day on the island, midweek trips can be arranged throughout the year. Email Simon for more information at volunteermotuihe@gmail.com

Monitoring Projects

We have trips throughout the year to monitor different aspects of our ecosystem, and to gain information about the health, growth and behaviours of our wildlife.  This includes kiwi call counts, reptile surveys, camera grid maintenance, bird call counts and ongoing monitoring of our wetapunga, dotterel, little blue penguin and shearwater populations.

Further information can be found here or get in touch at operations@motuihe.org.nz
